Nick: Hi everybody, this is Nick. Welcome to teaching series ;how do you say this in American English.;. Nick: Hey what#39;s up Brad.Brad: Not much. How is it going, Nick?Nick: good good. It#39;s just… I#39;m tired as fuck.Brad: How? What did you do?Nick: ah… I hit the gym yesterday. You know I haven#39;t been working out for a freaking long time, like a month or so. After that, I was like tired as fuck. I was beat.Brad: Happens to me too! I work out a lot and it#39;s nice outside so I#39;m woke as fuck! Whenever I#39;m tired as fuck I just drink a lot of coffee, you know, caffeine? I pretty much live off coffee during the weekNick: Yeah I feel you. I#39;ve been there before. But coffee is not my cup of tea, not my thing though.Brad: Coffee isn#39;t your cup of tea?Nick: No it#39;s not.Brad: When you are using ;as fuck; you do need to be careful when and where you use it. Not only is it informal but it#39;s very inappropriate. With me it#39;s totally fine since we#39;re close friends and we#39;ve been in class together and pretty much the same age but I don#39;t recommend using it in front of anyone older. Also in my eyes, it could be just mean, I#39;m sure a lot of people are gonna share this thing (or some) thoughts. But it#39;s not really appropriate to curse in front of a woman-you are using ;fuck;, which is a very bad curse word. Even now we are in a pretty closed room but I#39;m always to check over my shoulder when I#39;m saying ;fuck; because of this. So you don#39;t really wanna say ;fuck;Nick: It#39;s a swear word.Brad: Yeah it#39;s a swear word. I won#39;t be saying fuck in Chinese like all the time. People will be like I#39;m weirdNick: Apparently that#39;s pretty informal. So this is pretty much it for this time. I#39;ll see you guys next time, bye.

Mike: It looked like a dull party with everybody just sitting there. But Dick started the ball rolling by telling a couple of funnny jokes, and then Jack brought out his violin and sang folk songs. People started singing and we had a good time after all. 在Mike的描述中,用到一个五星级表示“先放一炮,开个头”这个意思的短语是:start the ball rolling,其定义为:to get a process started。 的方式开了个头,在短语的后面用介词by,即为:start the ball rolling by somehting。我们再通过2个例句来领悟它的意思和看看它的用法: e.g. The old men started the ball rolling, the others began to throw out their suggestions.(老头儿们开了头,别人都纷纷出起主意来。) Ps:throw out:说出 e.g. John started the ball rolling by a question in the discussion and everyone else began to ask his questions at once.(约翰再讨论中开头问了一个问题,于是乎大家都涌跃提问起来。) By for now! /201508/391970
