So for a Southern American accent we're going to start with the R sound. Now there are lots of variations on what is commonly called a Southern accent, there's quite an old fashioned one that doesn't have a letter R sound after vowels and there's a more modern one that does but we're going to work for the really old fashioned one that you'd hear in Tennessee Williams plays and that you might hear in something like 'Gone With The Wind'.So for this unless an R is written before a vowel it isn't pronounced, listen to this. A green bird's brighter, a green bird's brighter. So you can hear the R in green and brighter, green and brighter, but then in birds you don't hear it, bird's, in green, a green bird's brighter.Listen also to the sound that we get in words like bed and head and then words like bared and lair. Now in English they're very different with a British accent, e and air, but they become the same or very similar in a Southern accent, so when you say something like he bared his teeth in the bed, he bared his teeth in the bed sound exactly the same, bared and bed. Notice also as we said there is no R sound so in that word bared the R isn't pronounced - bared. Our final sound and probably one of the most important ones for a Southern accent is I. The I in like and diner and hi, it becomes much more like an A in man, so we want hi, like, diner - hi there, everything alright? hi there, everything alright? And if you want to sound slightly less posh than some Southern Americans speakers you can take off the end T sound. So you might say hi there, everything alright? some might say hi there, everything alright? and they will have the T so that's up to you. Article/201008/111959

TEXT:Today more than 10% of all Americans can trace their ancestry back to the Mayflower. For a time, Plymouth provides the sanctuary they sought. “Edward! Edward! Edward, please go and look over there!” But like Jamestown, there were others here first. April 1621. The Pilgrims have been in the New World for five months. Barely half survive the first winter. But they#39;re not the first Europeans to arrive on this coast. Five years before, European ships brought light-skinned people and plague. Almost nine out of ten of the local people a re wiped out. The Pokanoket people don#39;t need enemies. They make peace with the Pilgrims. They teach the English how to grow crops in sandy soil, using fish for fertilizer. But they want something inreturn. They have a common enemy -- a rival tribe. And the English have powerful weapons. The Pilgrims aren#39;t soldiers. But in the New World, they have to fight to survive. On August 14, 1621, Pilgrims and Pokanoket, shoulder to shoulder, will launch a surprise attack that will seal their future in this new land. It was resolved to send 14 men, well-armed, and to fall upon them in the night. The captain gave charge: Let none pass out. The rival tribe doesn#39;t know what hit them. Surrounded, they have no answer for English firepower. Pokanoket and Pilgrims find comm on ground and a chance to survive.

Google has agreed to pay 500 million U.S. dollars for running advertisements by online Canadian pharmacies targeting consumers in the U.S. The U.S. Justice Department says the ads led to illegal imports of prescription medication into the country, and allowed the purchase of these drugs online without valid prescriptions. The fine is one of the largest-ever in the U.S. for illegal online advertising, and represents money made by Google on ad sales, plus revenue earned by the pharmacies from sales to American customers. Google has since banned the advertising of prescription drugs in the U.S. by Canadian pharmacies. But, the fine didn't come as a total surprise to Google, as the company disclosed in May it had set aside 500 million dollars for a potential settlement. 取缔,查禁;(from)禁止 常构成: ban from sth./ doing sth. n.
