It's a new reality show on A that follows four young women looking for love in San Francisco.Helping them out in their manhunts are the show's two love coaches, if you will, Teresa Strasser and JD Robredo, (Hey) good morning to you both. Thanks for having us.Good morning,AliceYou've got the love coaches you?We are.All right Jeddy, this is,er, we are saying it's a reality show, but no one's getting voted off, no one's getting booted or anything like that.Totally.Talk about the women that are on the show.In this, it's very much the entire reality show, because our goal on this is really to document the dating lives of four single women in San Francisco, how long the way for Teresa and I to coach them along, give them some advice on meeting the right guy and it's not(hmm) it's not about how to get a guy, it's how to get the guy, (the guy)how to get the be-right guy for you. And another thing that makes our show different, a lot of these reality shows-- the girls are like 21, (yeah) it's a dinner list from Bakers' field, (ouch) our girls, they are not~our girls are women, they are in their 30s, they are professionals, and you know, when my mom got married at 24, she was about 5 minutes away from being an old maid, but you had to get married.Crack/Quite about the time, right.Gen(yeah)..generationally, that's really changed, now being single in your 30s and being a career person is totally normal, so dating in your 30s as a single women is really general, this is the first generation that you really face that.Yeah, it's...a sea change.Well, let me, let me put all...see what you bring to the table, (OK) with you guys er, you know, the love coaches,(yeah) I love that title. Er,Carrie Bradshaw, (Yeah,Yeah)Will you consider like Carrie Bradshaw, of course, from the Sex and the City. Why?That's right. Well, I'm about twice her size with half her shoes, but I am a single's columnist, I write about my own experiences. Every dating mistake he could make I've made it, written about it, processed it, and hopefully the girls can benefit from many of my dating tragedies. Ok, Jeddy, you got the guy's prospect, but you're happily married. I do. Well, You know I'm the married version of the single guys that these girls are dating, so I'm the only one that can really tell them what's going on in the mind of the guy across the table and how do you get the guy from single dater to happily married which is where I fortunately got to. What a new little baby boy! Yes, I do, the little baby boy. (Yes)A great and credible edition of my life, one of the things in my wife when I talk about a lot is that having our son, the most important thing we can offer him is our marriage, is our relationship, so it's even more important than ever(have a nice solid) that we have a great relationship because that's we have to offer him.Well, let's see you two love coaches in action how to get the guy, here it is.You could fill every seat in this stadium with an available guy, twice.* with all those guys how do you find the guy.Exactly.It's a number's game, you are gonna go in more dates and you could possibly imagine. You are cute teams and that's gonna be worn out.So consider yourselves off the bench and officially in the game.Off the bench, in the game, Get in the game.Let's get some tips now ,Teresa, ok, what's the~the single best piece of advice you can give woman when it comes to dating.Ok, I would say if you have a check list and every women I know has had one, I've had one, and it's six pages long, and it's every qualification a guy's gotta be a left-handed, kayaking, red hair, lawyer, over six feet, you know what I mean, chuck that, pick a few things that are, you know, non-negotiables, and open your mind because the universe could bring you something way better than what you could have planned for yourself. You never know what love is gonna look like, so assuming (what) you do is the first mistake. And it's a number's game, I heard you say.Oh, absolutely, volume dating is something we recommend, I mean you wouldn't apply for one job, not get in and then decide I'm unemployable, I'm gonna stay home.Yeah,ok, Jeddy, for the......from the guy's point of view(yeah),er,what do you bring to the table where, where this is concerned, to keep the light?Well, you know what, on a, on a first date especially don't bring a lot of baggage with you, it's one of the tough things about being a single woman in your 30s is that you have a lot of dating experience. On the first date, I don't particularly wanna hear about your ex-boyfriends,(very good) I don't wanna hear about the fact that cheese cake makes you gassy, (leave out all these disorders.Yeah!we know, what the~),you would be amazed when people talk about in their first dates, as a guy keep it light, have a good time, if you start talking about your dating history, I'm probably never gonna call. And chivalry is not dead, right?Chivalry is not dead, it's very tough for a guy, most of the time a guy wants to buy a date on the first meal, on the first dinner, but I don't know if that's ok with you, if I buy you a dinner, is that gonna make you feel like I think you can buy your own dinner, let me buy a dinner, guys pick up the check, women let us pick up the check, we want to.Add a compliment. You gotta, gotta get the guys feel~Yes I learn this from Jeddy, (I didn't know that). Yes, I know. He taught me this and I use it all the time on my boyfriend and it never fails. You know If you~you spend so much time as a woman getting y for a date, wanna look good, so do we, and we are incredibly insecure about how we dress, how we look, (oh, please) we are, we wanna look good, pay us a complimentAll right. 200809/49929

Fighting on the right, questioning on the left, the candid Tony Blair admitted today that he's battling on all fronts to get his way on public sector reform. At his last regular Downing Street press conference of the year, Mr. Blair told journalists he felt confident, and was enjoying the fight, but as well as reinvigorated Conservative Party, he is also facing a revolt of his own party over his education reforms. Our political editor Gary Gibbon takes a look at what the new year might bring for the prime minister.Gary Gibbon: This was the prime minister's chance to say how he sees the coming year, to kill off any notion that he is flagging, oppressed by his critics, likely to throw in the towel, to persuade his audience that 2006 will not be the year his premiership ends.Tony Blair: I feel a tremendous sense of confidence. I've never felt more confident. We should be confident. I feel very confident. I thought I 've never felt more confident...Gary Gibbon: But is the prime minister confident that he can get his way, or confident he can keep his job? There're signs of Westminster that he won't necessarily be able to do both. Normally, reliable supporters of the government determined not to let prime minister have his way on education reforms. They sense the government's offering a compromise, perhaps tightening the rules on selection, but they're determined to make a stand against what they see as a drastic reform of local education authorities.""You've got a te....for loosening the LEA's control over secondary schools and rethinking it."Gary Gibbon: The rebels are demanding a rewrite of the bill that would tighten local government's grip on schools."...would it be worse passing an education bill that in some cases strengthened the LEA's control and largely left it unreformed?"Tony Blair: It won't. No is the answer. If...if...if what it does, actually hobbles schools from moving forward in the way that they need to."Clive Betts: I don't want to speculate on the end of the prime minister's premiership, because ..um.. you know..there..he has just won the... a thrid term...um.. as I say, the, there has been a great success in our education program so far in raising standards (but) and building new schools (but), but I just wish he would listen on this issue.Gary Gibbon: In this week, the prime minister have to deal with public attacks from a man who says he just doesn't do that sort of thing."But when we do disagree. I don't wish you out and issue a press release or brief the newspapers."Gary Gibbon: But that 's what he just did, swacking the prime minister where it hurts. He said he was critical and not totally convinced of Mr.Blair's cherished education plans.Tony Blair: ...you know, in respect of John's comments on, on education, I doubt any of you are particularly surprised that was his concern,..um...and, you know he, he does this.."Gary Gibbon: And Tony Blair is entering a new year in which the polls are moving in the wrong direction. An average of polls after the election showed Labor within an 8 point lead. This month Labor's down. The Tories for the first time in 12 years could be getting a sustained lead. Mr. Blair said Labor could come back, if it's stuck with public sector reform. He sensed David Cameron's conservatives wanted to paint Labor the party of the state, and that trap must be avoided.Tony Blair: If there is an arguement that the Labor party has got to be careful of, it's this arguement that we are more interested in the state than we're in people.George Osborne: Tony Blair is right to identify this is a problem for the Labor party. Uh, the only thing I'd say he has been prime minister for eight years and he's not done much about it, ur, the Labor government's solutions and also its public service reforms have tended to be top-down solutions, and of course there is this, other person in charge of the Labor party Golden Brown, who explicitly rules out..Um.. greater transfer of collective power to a community away from the state.Gary Gibbon: Mr.Blair warned against high-octane sensational headlines predicting his imminent demise, but he knows he is entering a year that many in his own party hope will be the closing chapter of his leadership. The prime minister also insisted he didn't want to add fuel to claims that CIA planes can, prisoners onboard, may have landed in Britain before moving to countries to practise torture. Last weekend, the US Secretary of state Colin Paul said that rendition is not new or unknown to my European friends. Well, I ask the prime minister, now that he knows, is he going to investigate the allegations?Tony Blair: I, I have absolutely no evidence to suggest that anything illegal's been happening here at all, and I don't want to start ordering inquiries into this stuff or the next thing well if I've got no evidence to show whether this's right or not, and honestly, you know, it's like all the stuff about camps in Europe or something, I don't know, I've never heard of such a thing, I can't tell you whether such a thing exists, because I don't know 本期难点1. throw in the towel: give up; admit defeat.2. the LEA: Local Education Authority (UK) 3. swack: vt. A table tennis tournament being held June 10-12 is commemorating the historic ping-pong diplomacy that helped open relations between the ed States and China in the 1970s. The event at the Richard Nixon Presidential Library in Yorba Linda, California, will feature a rematch of some of the original players. In April, 1971, the U.S. national table tennis team was playing at the world championship in Nagoya, Japan, when Chinese Premier Zhou En-lai invited the team to China. Four days later, nine players, team officials and two spouses became the first official American visitors to China since 1949, the year the Communists came to power. In February, 1972, U.S. President Richard Nixon made his historic trip to China. Seven years later, the ed States and the People's Republic of China opened diplomatic relations. These events are being remembered at the Nixon Library, which this week is hosting ping-pong demonstrations, instructional clinics for players and games between current U.S. and Chinese table tennis stars. Richard Nixon Library Executive Director John H. Taylor says Mr. Nixon and Zhou En-lai both had practical goals, while both also hoped for better relations between the two nations. China pragmatically was looking to deepen its economic and cultural ties with the West, but more emotionally they were looking for acceptance after having been ostracized for a generation or more by the Americans," he explained. He says the American president also had a strategic goal, hoping to counteract the influence of the Soviet Union with closer ties to China. But he says Nixon's motives were tinged with idealism, and that he hoped to end the isolation of the Chinese people. The breakthrough began with a personal contact between two athletes. An American player missed his bus at the world table tennis championship in Japan. A Chinese player suggested he ride on the bus of the Chinese team. The two players exchanged gifts, and political leaders seized on the idea of a sports exchange. At one level, the games were merely a symbol of more important diplomacy taking place behind the scenes. Yet Olympic historian David Wallechinsky says it is not unusual for athletes to bridge political barriers. He recalls another incident in 1952, when the Soviet Union took part in its first Olympic games. It was at the height of the Cold War, when the great American pole vaulter Bob Richards led a group of American athletes to visit their Soviet counterparts. Wallechinsky says it helped to break the ice and change the mood at the games. One advantage that athletes have over diplomats is that they do not have to take a stand," he noted. "They can act as individuals. They can represent themselves and make that effort to become friends. One of the great parts of the Olympics, for example, is to go into the Olympic Village and see these athletes from 200 countries just being friendly with each other." Often, he says, they are playing ping-pong or games. John Taylor says the California tournament looks back to 1971 and its famous ping-pong diplomacy, but also looks forward to the Olympics, which will be held in Beijing in August. We wanted to give our hometown audience in southern California a preview of some of the excitement that attends the Olympics, since the vast majority of us will not be able to journey to Beijing," he added. "But it is also part of the mission of the Nixon Foundation and the Nixon Library to remind people about a great event in the past, as opportunities for reconciliation will present themselves as they often do in the future." An official with the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, one of the sponsors of the event, says the rematch will remind the Chinese of the importance of relationships they now take for granted. The highlight of the three-day event is a rematch of players from the original teams. In 1971, the Chinese players were considered the best in the world, and in several days of matches, they trounced the Americans. American George Braithwaite and Chinese star Liang Geliang face off again Thursday. Braithwaite says he was suspicious in 1971 when he won two out of three matches against Liang, one of world's top players, as they squared off in an auditorium with 18,000 spectators. The Americans soon realized the Chinese players were letting them win some games. Braithwaite, 69, says he has been practicing hard for the rematch.

U.S. President George Bush has arrived in Seoul, South Korea, the first stop on a week-long Asian tour that will also take him to Thailand and China for the opening of the Beijing Olympics. Thousands of South Koreans opposed to the resumption of U.S. beef imports protested. This is likely to be Mr. Bush's last trip to Asia as president. And he has a full agenda for his talks with South Korean, Thai and Chinese leaders - from North Korea's nuclear ambitions, to trade, to human rights. In Seoul, he will discuss security and finance matters with President Lee Myung-bak. But North Korea is likely to be the issue that hangs over all else. President Bush has said he welcomes North Korea's recent declaration of its plutonium enrichment activities, and the destruction of the cooling tower at its Yongbyon reactor. But he says the North must still agree to a verification process. "They're a highly sanctioned regime," said the U.S. president. "And, as I said, they've got a lot of obligations that they must fulfill in order for these sanctions to leave." Protests over US beef imports delayed president's visit to SeoulMr. Bush was originally expected to visit South Korea last month. But the trip was postponed following massive demonstrations in Seoul against imports of American beef. Overall, passions have cooled in recent weeks. But as the president arrived in the South Korean capital, roughly 20,000 protesters gathered in the city. There were about a dozen arrests and there have been reports police used water cannons to keep demonstrators from blocking a major city street. All the same, there has been no word of any major clashes between demonstrators and some of the more than 16,000 law enforcement officers put on stand-by to handle any unruly crowds. Trip to Thailand will include border visit for Mrs. BushMr. Bush's reception in Thailand is likely to be much more sedate. Officially, he is going to Bangkok to mark the 175th anniversary of U.S.-Thai relations, and to deliver a speech that will be, in essence, an assessment of his Asia policies. But going to Thailand also provides an opportunity to highlight conditions in neighboring Burma. It will also give First Lady Laura Bush, who has made Burma a personal cause, a chance to tour a refugee camp on the Thai-Burmese border and meet face to face with some of the victims of Burma's military regime. The more I've seen, the more critical I see the need is for the people in Burma to be for the world to pay attention to the people of Burma, and for the world to put pressure on the military regime," she said. From Thailand, the president and Mrs. Bush will go to Beijing, where he will be playing two roles: leader of the ed States and sports fan. Bush looking forward to Beijing Olympics, despite criticism over human rightsHe says he will raise concerns about human rights and other issues with Chinese leaders in private, but will not use the Olympics to make a political statement. I am looking forward to cheering the athletes," said President Bush. "I think it will be - I think it would be good for these athletes who have worked so hard to see their president waving the flag." During an interview with The Washington Post newspaper, conducted during the flight from Washington to Seoul, the president talked about the evolution of U.S.-China relations during his years in office. He praised China's efforts to curb the nuclear ambitions of both North Korea and Iran. But he acknowledged it is very difficult to determine if there has been any improvement in human rights in China over the last eight years. And he expressed disappointment that Chinese actions helped scuttle the latest round of world trade talks.200808/45571
