That is an astonishing statement and yet proven a thousand times every day of our lives. It expresses, in part, our inescapable connection with the outside world, the fact that we touch other peoples lives simply by existing. But how much more are you, Harvard graduates of 2008, likely to touch other peoples lives? Your intelligence, your capacity for hard work, the education you have earned and received, give you unique status, and unique responsibilities. Even your nationality sets you apart. The great majority of you belong to the worlds only remaining superpower. The way you vote, the way you live, the way you protest, the pressure you bring to bear on your government, has an impact way beyond your borders. That is your privilege, and your burden. If you choose to use your status and influence to raise your voice on behalf of those who have no voice; if you choose to identify not only with the powerful, but with the powerless; if you retain the ability to imagine yourself into the lives of those who do not have your advantages, then it will not only be your proud families who celebrate your existence, but thousands and millions of people whose reality you have helped to change. We do not need magic to transform my world, we carry all the power we need inside ourselves aly: we have the power to imagine better. 201402/275259Certain large investment firms have established freedom from connection But we as people never do 但我们作为人从不这样and were not supposed to, and we shouldnt want to 我们也不该这样 我们也不想这样We are individuals, obviously, but we are more than that So heres the thing about changing the world 下面是关于改变世界It turns out thats not even the question, because you dont have a choice You are going to change the world, because that is actually what the world is You do not pass through this life, it passes through you You experience it, you interpret it, you act 你只是体会它 解释它 然后你采取行动and then it is different 然后它就会变得不同That happens constantly 这会持续发生You are changing the world 你们在改变世界You always have been, and now 你们一直都在如此 而现在it becomes real on a level that it hasnt been before 在之前所未有过的层面上 它变得真实And thats why Ive been talking only about you and the tension within you 正因为此 我一直只讨论你们 以及你们心中的张力because you are not in a cliched sense, but in a weirdly literal sense, the future因为 你们是未来 这不是陈词滥调 它具有奇特的字面意义After you walk up here and walk back down, youre going to be the present You will be the broken world 你们将成为这个被打破的世界and the act of changing it in a way that you havent been before而且你们将以从未有过的方式改变它You will be so many things 你们将有很多作为and the one thing that I wish Id known and want to say 有一点我希望我早点知道 而且告诉你们is, dont just be yourself 也就是 别只成为你自己Be all of yourselves 成为所有的自己Dont just live 不要只是活着Be that other thing connected to death还要联系到另一端的死亡Be life. Live all of your life 过好生活 尊重所有的生活Understand it, see it, appreciate it 理解它 看透它 感激它And have fun. 201602/427070Christmas is a joyful and loving time when we welcome home far-flung family and friends, and relax and reminisce with those closest to us. It is also a time for reflection, and thanking those who have served us and protected us throughout the year – many of whom wont be home to spend Christmas with their family and close friends. In particular, we thank the men and women of the Australian Defence Force who are serving overseas this Christmas, as well as our police, security, emergency and firefighting services who will be keeping us safe on Christmas Day just as they do every day. We should also think of those less fortunate this Christmas. Poverty, loneliness, illness, the loss of loved ones – these shadows hang heavier at Christmas. We can lift some of those shadows by sharing our love with others – beyond our family and close friends. So, if you can donate time or money, charities like the Wayside Chapel, the Salvation Army, St Vincent de Paul Society, Meals on Wheels and Black Dog Institute among others do wonderful work all year, and especially at Christmas. I have been meeting here at North Bondi RSL this morning with some of our veterans, including the founder of Soldier On, John Bale. They do a great job helping the Anzacs of today recover from injuries and transition successfully to civilian life. You can donate to Soldier On too by visiting their website – www.soldieron.org.au. So from Lucy and me, and our family, to you and yours, we wish you a very Merry Christmas, a relaxing and safe holiday and a 2016 filled with peace, happiness and love.201601/419831And I just look at this, and I think, yes,看到这些,我想,是的we could take that so much further by allowing people to set targets我们能可以把它带到更广阔的境界,以让人们去设定目标的方式by setting calibrated targets,以设置校准目标的方式by using elements of uncertainty,以使用不确定因素的方式by using these multiple targets,以使用这些多重目标的方式by using a grand, underlying reward and incentive system,以一个浩大的,潜在的奖励和激励系统by setting people up to collaborate in terms of groups, in terms of streets to collaborate and compete,依靠建立合作以群体形式,路边组合形式协作,竞争to use these very sophisticated group and motivational mechanics we see.以这些我们看到的非常复杂的群体和激励机制In terms of education,这在教育方面perhaps most obviously of all, we can transform how we engage people. We can offer people the grand continuity of experience and personal investment. We can break things down into highly calibrated small tasks. We can use calculated randomness. We can reward effort consistently as everything fields together. And we can use the kind of group behaviors that we see evolving when people are at play together,并且我们能用这种群体行为,我们看到它在人们共同游戏时演变these really quite unprecedentedly complex cooperative mechanisms. Government, well, one thing that comes to mind is the U.S. government, among others,政府,有件事在我脑海中浮现,那就是美国政府,是所有政府中is literally starting to pay people to lose weight. So were seeing financial reward being used to tackle the great issue of obesity. But again, those rewards could be calibrated so precisely但,那些激励能够被如此精确地标量if we were able to use the vast expertise of gaming systems to just jack up that appeal,如果我们能够用游戏系统中庞大的专门技术来持这种需要to take the data, to take the observations, of millions of human hours去积累数据,执行观察分析代替百万人工作量and plow that feedback into increasing engagement. And in the end, its this word, ;engagement,; that I want to leave you with. Its about how individual engagement can be transformed这是关于如何用心理学和神经学的经验来转换by the psychological and the neurological lessons个人的参与行为we can learn from watching people that are playing games. But its also about collective engagement这同时也是关于集体参与and about the unprecedented laboratory for observing what makes people tick这是前所未有的实验室,我们通过游戏世界这个平台and work and play and engage on a grand scale in games. And if we can look at these things and learn from them如果我们观察这些并从中学习and see how to turn them outwards,并找到将它通用到游戏之外的方法then I really think we have something quite revolutionary on our hands.

The other thing is, before we get too arrogant about this 但别骄傲 另外一件事就是 We all spend 99.5% of our time to think about the 0.5% of us is different. Dont we? All of us 是吧 我们所有人 You walk down to the street, by a store window and you see your reflection You think, oh I wish I was a little taller Thats also focus on that 0.5% Now that 0.5% matters, given Einstein the biggest brain ever measured, He made pretty good use of it. Its a good thing That 0.5% means LeBron James is hard to stop if hes driving for the basket The 0.5% matters But so does the 99.5% And thats why this service ethic counts And when you leave here I want you never to forget for the rest of your life, in good times and bad, that you live in an interdependent world 当你们离开之后 我希望你们 这辈子都不要忘记 无论境况好坏 你们生存在一个相互依存的世界中 and weve got to put it together, which means to be a good citizen 我们必须要齐心协力 即要做一位好公民 youve got to do something sometime for somebody else because they are just like you are 你就得在有些时候为他人做些事情 因为他们正像你一样 That is really, really important The last point I wanna make is very good economics A few years ago, an American journalist named James Surowiecki 索罗维基的美国记者 wrote a book called The Wisdom of Crowds, in which he chronicled all these experiments which all come down to this 写了一本书 名为群众的智慧 书中他记录了所有的实验结果 最终可归结为一点 If I pick twenty of you at random from this crowd, and I put you in a nice room in Howard

And what you need to do is to honor that 你所需要做的 是尊重这个事实to understand it, to unearth it 去理解它 去挖掘它to listen to this other voice 去倾听这个相反的声音All right, Im losing this now, because 我现在要把帽子摘掉otherwise its coming off in a dramatic fashion at the wrong time 否则它肯定会在错误的时候 以很丢脸的方式飞出去I know. I worked on this hair for a long time, so I had to bust it out 我需要去生发了You have, which is a rare thing 你们有一个很特别的东西that ability and the responsibility to listen to the dissent in yourself也就是 倾听自身异议的能力和责任to at least give it the floor, because it is the key至少是让它展现出来 因为这很关键not only to consciousness, but to real growth 不仅对意识而言 也对实际生长而言To accept duality is to earn identity And identity is something that you are constantly earning It is not just who you are 它不仅仅是你是谁It is a process that you must be active in Its not just parroting your parents or the thoughts of your learned teachers It is now more than ever about understanding yourself so you can become yourself现在需要更多地理解自己 从而让你成为真正的自己I talk about this contradiction, and this tension 我讲了这个矛盾 这个张力theres two things I want to say about it 关于这个 我有两点要说的One, it never goes away And if you think that achieving something, if you think that solving something如果你认为达到什么高度 解决什么问题if you think a career or a relationship will quiet that voice 或者拥有什么职业或关系就能平息这个声音it will not 那你就错了If you think that happiness means total peace 如果你认为幸福就是完全的平静you will never be happy 那你将永远无法幸福Peace comes from the acceptance of the part of you that can never be at peace

Sounds crazy. But this goes back to that theme about, you know, your imagination creating a reality. Because we actually created a reality where six months later I find myself in a Russian submersible two and a half miles down in the north Atlantic, looking at the real Titanic through a view port, not a movie, not a HD, for real! Now, that blew my mind. And you know, it took a lot of preparation, we had to build cameras and lights and all kinds of things. But, it struck me how much this dive, these deep dives was like a space mission. You know, where it was highly technical, and it required enormous planning. You get in this capsule, you go down to this dark hostile environment where there is no hope of rescue if you cant get back by yourself. And you know, I thought like, ;Wow. I am like living in a science fiction movie. This is really cool.;这让我非常惊讶。 And so, I really got bitten by the bug of deep ocean exploration. Of course, the curiosity, the science component of it. It was everything. It was adventure. It was curiosity. It was imagination. And it was an experience that Hollywood couldnt give me. Because, you know, I could imagine a creature and we could create a visual effect for it. But I couldnt imagine what I was seeing out of that window. As we did some of our subsequent expeditions I was seeing creatures at hydrothermal vents and sometimes things that I had never seen before, sometimes things that no one had seen before, that actually were not described by science at the time that we saw them and imaged them. So, I was completely smitten by this, and had to do more. /201311/263055
