My dream ended when I was born. Although I never knew it then, I just held on to something that would never come to pass. Dreams really do exist. But in the morning when you wake up, they are remembered just as a dream. That is what happened to me.I always have the dream to dance like a beautiful ballerina twirling around and around and hearing people applaud for me.When I was young, I would twirling around and around in the fields of wildflowers that grew in my backyard. For hours I would dance as if people were watching me. I would dance so fast that I would forget where I was, until I would hear sounds that reminded me of where I really was. I thought that if I twirled faster everything would disappear and I would wake up in a new place. Reality woke me up when I heard a voice saying, "I don't know why you bother trying to dance. Ballerinas are pretty, slender little girls. Besides, you don't have the talent to even be a ballerina." I remember how those words paralyzed every feeling in my body. I feel to the ground and wept for hours. We lived in the country by a nearby lake and I would sometimes go there to hide. My parents were never home anyway and I did not like to be at home where I could hear the walls talking of pain. When they were home, my mother just yelled and criticized because nothing was ever perfect in her life. She dreamed of a different life but ended up living in a country far away from the city where she believed her dreams would have come true.I enjoyed hanging out by the water. I would sit there for hours and stare at my reflection. There I was, looked nothing like a pretty ballerina dancer. Reflections don't lie. Once the waves would come, my reflection was gone. Washed away just like my dream to dance. I sat there staring at the water, hoping that my reflection would reappear and be different. As I grew older, I began to realize that the reason my dream was even born in the first place, was because it was something that was inside of me. The dream I had was never nurtured and cared for, so it slowly died. It's not that I wanted it to die, but I allowed it to die the day I started listening to the words, "You can't do it." When I finally woke up from many years of dreaming, I realized that you can't settle for dancing in the wildflowers, you have to move on to the platform. I still go to the lake sometimes and sit there. Looking at my reflection is different now too. When I was young, I looked at how others saw me, now that I am older and wiser; I look at how God sees me . /200810/54147Blog offers potted history of life as a plantIt has long been accepted that talking to plants can help them flourish, but have you ever wondered what they'd say in response?Well a plant in Japan has its own blog that may help you understand."Midori-san," a 40 cm (16 inches)potted plant on a cafe counter in Kamakura, near Tokyo, blogs every day with the help of a sensor that measures electric signals and a computer algorithm that translates them into Japanese. The plant, a hoya kerrii, is commonly called a "sweetheart plant" because of its leaf shape."We were initially interested in what plants are feeling and what they are reacting to where we can't see," said Satoshi Kuribayashi, a researcher involved in the project at Japan's Keio University. The strength of electronic signals on the surface of Midori-san's heart-shaped green leaves, which react to light and human touch, are measured by a sensor attached to the plant, and this data is sent to a computer in the cafe. The computer uses an algorithm to translate the signal data, as well as other factors -- including weather and temperature -- to translate them into words, which are automatically posted on Midori-san's blog (http://plant.bowls-cafe.jp/index.php)"Today was a sunny day and I was able to sunbathe a lot... I had quite a bit of fun today," Midori-san, whose name means "green" in Japanese, posted on Oct 16.The latest entry s: "It was cloudy today. It was a cold day."Kuribayashi said he hopes that in the future, the blog will reflect even more accurately of Midori-san's feelings.Blogging with computers and mobile phones is popular in Japan, which had the greatest number of blog posts by language at 37 percent, followed by English and Chinese posts, a study from blog search engine Technocrati in 2007 showed.

""Although the chilled subject believes they have 'caught a cold', what has in fact happened is that the dormant infection has taken hold."But they also suggested that another explanation could be that our noses are colder in the winter. Prof Eccles said: "A cold nose may be one of the major factors that causes common colds to be seasonal.""When the cold weather comes we wrap ourselves up in winter coats to keep warm but our nose is directly exposed to the cold air. Cooling of the nose slows down clearance of viruses from the nose and slows down the white cells that fight infection."The researchers said:" Parents should feel confident in telling children to wrap themselves up in those nose-protecting garment this winter."

With the white beard and hair Santa may look old, but he doesn't seem to be getting any older. What are his secrets to longevity? How does the Jolly Old Elf keep up year to year? I managed to get Santa on the phone in a rare interview:1. The "Ho-Ho-Ho" Secret"My trademarked 'Ho-Ho-Ho' is more than just my natural expression of joy," began Santa. "It's my form of stress relief. Things can get quit hectic this time of year and the elves can be especially difficult about all the overtime. I find that laughter and smiling are the best ways to dissipate stress and lighten my mood. If I could bring one gift to all the grown ups this Christmas, it would be more smiles and laughter."2. Mrs. Claus"My next secret is Mrs. Claus," continued Santa. "She is the most wonderful wife and I couldn't do anything without her. She doesn't like the spotlight, but have to give her credit for making sure I take care of myself and keeping from obsessing too much over my work. Just being with her takes years off my life."3. Chimney Squats"You may not know it from my waistline, but I am quite fit. I have to train all year round to be strong enough to leap up through millions of chimneys on Christmas Eve," continued Santa. "I have a whole team of elves working with me everyday to exercise. They are always after me to leave the cookies behind, but I just love cookies so . . ." he said with a distant look in his eyes.4. Managing Elves"I can't begin to tell you how much I love working with elves. I think they are one of the reasons I stay so young," Santa explained. "When you have a thousand or so elves preparing millions and millions of gifts for the Big Day, you have to have some pretty good management skills. This keeps my mind working and engaged all year long." Santa recommends that anyone who want to stay sharp find ways to be creative and engage in daily problem solving and mental challenges.5. Giving and Thinking Positive"My final longevity secret: Think positive. I look forward to every year and the joys and challenges it brings. I just love my giving gifts and sping joy during the Christmas season. It gives my life meaning and value. That, in my opinion, is the number one secret to longevity." With that, Santa gave a mighty "Ho-Ho-Ho" and excused himself to check on an assembly line. If you love wearing high-heeled shoes but hate the torturous impact they have on your feet, then your prayers could be answered by the latest trend in shoe fashion. Dubbed 'the shoe of 2011', flatforms are a striking new addition to the footwear repertoire of the fashion-conscious. 被誉为“2011年度鞋品”的flatforms(暂译为“厚平底鞋”)是时尚达人们新近添置的最新鞋品。 Flatform shoes, or just simply flatformsfor short, are women's shoes that have a raised sole which is usually at least three (and sometime as much as five) inches (between 7 and 12 cm) thick. In conventional high-heeled shoes, the heel is much higher than the rest of the shoe, causing the wearer to place their foot at an angle. In flatforms, by contrast, the front of the shoe is the same height as the back, enabling the wearer to keep their foot completely flat. This means that the shoes are, allegedly, much more comfortable than traditional high-heels, making the wearer taller but keeping their feet level so they aren't forced to balance or hobble around at an awkward angle with toes on the ground and ankles in the air. Flatforms(flatform shoes的缩写形式)指鞋底厚约3英寸(有时会到5英寸,也就是7到12厘米)的女鞋。
