Chaps, if you’re wondering whether the lady of your dreams wants a big family, the answer could be staring you in the face. Women with feminine looks are more likely to long for lots of children, according to research – and the softer their features, the bigger a brood they have in mind. The study suggests that men desperate to be dads should seek women with button noses, large eyes and full lips, as they are likely to want at least four children. But those less keen on fatherhood would be better setting their sights on less delicate sorts, who may only be interested in having one child. The St Andrews University scientists believe their finding can be explained by the female sex hormone oestrogen, with high levels making features softer and nurturing the maternal instinct. The discovery of a link between broodiness and delicate looks could explain the maternal instincts of Hollywood beauty Angelina Jolie, who has adopted three children and had three of her own. Jools Oliver, a former model, has a family of four with her chef husband Jamie, while actress Reese Witherspoon had two children by the age of 27. The researchers asked 25 young women how many children they wanted and when they would like to have them, and measured their oestrogen levels. Miriam Law Smith of St Andrews University’s Perception Lab, which specialises in face research, said: ‘The more oestrogen they had, the more children they wanted. We were surprised to find such a strong result.’ In a second experiment, a different group of young women had their photos taken and were asked about their desire for children. Dr Law Smith then created a composite image of the faces of the women with the strongest maternal instinct, and another based on the women who were least interested in having a family. The face made up of the features of the most maternal women was judged as more feminine by a group of male and female volunteers. On average, the most maternal women wanted 4.3 children – almost three more than those judged to be the least feminine, the journal Hormones and Behavior reports. 2. The cat shuts its eyes when stealing cream. 3. The cat did it. When the cat#39;s away, the mice will play. 这段惨痛的历史教训充分明“狸猫不在,老鼠闹债”——When the cat#39;s away, the mice will play. 在法国,人们说“只要猫上了房,老鼠就在地上忙”——When the cat runs on the roofs, the mice dance on the floors.德国人则说“家里没了猫,老鼠伸懒腰”——Cat outside the house, response for the mouse.5. (Darf doch die Katze den Kaiser ansehen. ;Even a cat may look at an Emperor.;)。 (Un chien regarde bien un eveque. ;Even a dog may look at a bishop.;)6. A cat has nine lives. (A cat has nine lives.)。7. He#39;s like a cat; fling him which way you will. He#39;ll light on his legs. (He#39;s like a cat; fling him which way you will. He#39;ll light on his legs.)。8. There are more ways of killing a cat than by choking it with cream.“杀猫的方法很多,不必非用奶油呛死它”,有点类似于中国的“不要非在一棵树上吊死”。

Two soldiers were in camp. The first one#39;s name was George, and the second one#39;s name was Bill. George said, ;have you got a piece of paper and an envelope, Bill?;乔治问:“比尔,你有信纸、信封吗?”Bill said, ;Yes, I have,; and he gave them to him. Then George said, ;Now I haven#39;t got a pen.;乔治又说:“我还没有笔呢。”Bill gave him his, and George wrote his letter. Then he put it in the envelope and said, ;have you got a stamp, Bill?; Bill gave him one. Then Bill got up and went to the door, so George said to him, ;Are you going out?;这时比尔站起来,向门口走去。乔治问:“你要出去吗?”Bill Said, ;Yes, I am,; and he opened the door. George said, ;Please put my letter in the box in the office, and...; He stopped. ;What do you want now?; Bill said to him.“你还要什么?” George looked at the envelope of his letter and answered, ;What#39;s your girl-friend#39;s address?;乔治看着信封说:“你女朋友的地址是-?” /201210/203336 ;The proper function of man is to live - not to exist.; -- Jack London“人应该生活,而不仅仅是生存。” Too often we go through life on autopilot, going through the motions and having each day pass like the one before it. That#39;s fine, and comfortable, until you have gone through another year without having done anything, without having really lived life. That#39;s fine, until you have reached old age and look back on life with regrets. That#39;s fine, until you see your kids go off to college and realize that you missed their childhoods. It#39;s not fine. If you want to truly live life, to really experience it, to enjoy it to the fullest, instead of barely scraping by and only living a life of existence, then you need to find ways to break free from the mold and drink from life. What follows is just a list of ideas, obvious ones mostly that you could have thought of yourself, but that I hope are useful reminders. We all need reminders sometimes. If you find this useful, print it out, and start using it. Today. 1. Love.1. 爱。Perhaps the most important. Fall in love, if you aren#39;t aly. If you have, fall in love with your partner all over again. Abandon caution and let your heart be broken. Or love family members, friends, anyone -- it doesn#39;t have to be romantic love. Love all of humanity, one person at a time. 2. Get outside.2. Don#39;t let yourself be shut indoors. Go out when it#39;s raining. Walk on the beach. Hike through the woods. Swim in a freezing lake. Bask in the sun. Play sports, or walk barefoot through grass. Pay close attention to nature. 3. Savor food.3. Don#39;t just eat your food, but really enjoy it. Feel the texture, the bursts of flavors. Savor every bite. If you limit your intake of sweets, it will make the small treats you give yourself (berries or dark chocolate are my favorites) even more enjoyable. And when you do have them, really, really savor them. Slowly. 4. Create a morning ritual.4. Wake early and greet the day. Watch the sun rise. Out loud, tell yourself that you will not waste this day, which is a gift. You will be compassionate to your fellow human beings, and live every moment to its fullest. Stretch or meditate or exercise as part of your ritual. Enjoy some coffee. 5. Take chances.5. We often live our lives too cautiously, worried about what might go wrong. Be bold, risk it all. Quit your job and go to business for yourself (plan it out first!), or go up to that girl you#39;ve liked for a long time and ask her out. What do you have to lose? Follow excitement.6. Try to find the things in life that excite you, and then go after them. Make life one exciting adventure after another (with perhaps some quiet times in between). 7.Find your passion.7. Similar to the above tip, this one asks you to find your calling. Make your living by doing the thing you love to do. First, think about what you really love to do. There may be many things. Find out how you can make a living doing it. It may be difficult, but you only live once. 8.Get out of your cubicle.8. Do you sit all day in front of computer, shuffling papers and taking phone calls and chatting on the Internet? Don#39;t waste your days like this. Break free from the cubicle environment, and do your work on a laptop, in a coffee shop, or on a boat, or in a log cabin. This may require a change of jobs, or becoming a freelancer. It#39;s worth it. 9.Turn off the TV.9. How many hours will we waste away in front of the boob tube? How many hours do we have to live? Do the math, then unplug the TV. Only plug it back in when you have a DVD of a movie you love. Otherwise, keep it off and find other stuff to do. Don#39;t know what to do? Read further. 10. Pull away from Internet.10. You#39;re ing something on the Internet right now. And it is just more wasting away of your precious time. You cannot get these minutes back. Unplug the Internet, then get out of your office or house. Right now! And go and do something. 11. Travel.11. Sure, you want to travel some day. When you have vacation time, or when you#39;re older. Well, what are you waiting for? Find a way to take a trip, if not this month, then sometime soon. You may need to sell your car or stop your cable bill and stop eating out to do it, but make it happen. You are too young to not see the world. If need be, find a way to make a living by freelancing, then work while you travel. Only work an hour or two a day. Don#39;t check email but once a week. Then use the rest of the time to see the world. 12. Rediscover what#39;s important.12. Take an hour and make a list of everything that#39;s important to you. Add to it everything that you want to do in life. Now cut that list down to 4-5 things. Just the most important things in your life. This is your core list. This is what matters. Focus your life on these things. Make time for them. 13. Exercise.13. Get off the couch and go for a walk. Eventually try running. Or do some push ups and crunches. Or swim or bike or row. Or go for a hike. Whatever you do, get active, and you#39;ll love it. And life will be more alive. 14. Be positive.14. Learn to recognize the negative thoughts you have. These are the self-doubts, the criticisms of others, the complaints, the reasons you can#39;t do something. Then stop yourself when you have these thoughts, and replace them with positive thoughts. Solutions. You can do this! Open your heart.15. Is your heart a closed bundle of scar tissue? Learn to open it, have it y to receive love, to give love unconditionally. If you have a problem with this, talk to someone about it. And practice makes perfect.
